Poetry and Photobook Update

So far, the project has been going very well. Charlie and I have completed all the poems in the book. There are fourteen poems, although we are thinking of cutting one of them from the manuscript. We have put all of the poems in order so that the scheme reflects emotional growth. We have a meeting fifth week with Professor Range, who will give us feedback on the poetry. Currently, we are designing the photos for each poem, and before shooting takes place, we are having the work reviewed by multiple professors. We were thinking of keeping our book's images abstract to ensure we maintain an open narrative for the viewer. In the book Image-Music-Text, Roland Barthes states that when "The author enters into his own death, writing begins" (Barthes, 1977). We are trying to design the raw articulation of the emotions when we battle mental health; thus, the illustration of these expressions will be transposed through 2 point perspective. For the photography, we are going to play with deep and liminal space, dullness and color, and clarity and distortion. Lots of the photography will convey distortion as it embodies the altered reality created by mental illness. We do not want to have a clear subject in frame in order to maintain mystery and ambiguity. We hope that each reader can find their own meaning in both the poetry and photography.
